A testament to change (a failure of fate)
A mercenary company specializing in mounted combat. After a small series of battles between the Kingdom of Berth and one of its neighbors, the treasuries of Berth could not afford to maintain as many professional soldiers, and the most expensive, Bearth’s Light Horse Regiment was disbanded. Grimin, the captain of the Light Horse Regiment sold his meager holdings in Berth and spent it on horses, weapons, armor and equipment. With almost the entire Light Horse Regiment signing on, Grimin founded Grimin’s Riders. After several successful campaigns, bounty rich but men and equipment poor Grimin took his men to the Valarian Valley to purchase supplies. While coming through Valor Pass Grimin saw a confrontation between a small party of the Army of Valaria and a numerically superior group of bandits. Grimin order his men to charge the bandits they were quickly routed and destroyed. Tain Markel, Commander of the Army of Valaria offered the southern part of Valor Hold to Grimin’s Riders to use as their base of operations. Since then Grimin has recruited more riders and normally only 1/3 to 1/4 of his force is ever in Valor Pass, due to all the inter kingdom conflicts. In total Grimin’s Riders make up over 200 well trained horsemen, with 150 of them being light horse armed in chain and leathers, masters of mounted archery and hit and run with light lances, the last 50 are heavy cavalry, wearing plate and shield thundering on heavy horses. Lords in the area around the Kingdom of Berth will hire light horse units of Grimin’s Riders just so they do not have to worry about its heavy horse being hired to fight against them. Grimin will never put his men in a situation where they would have to fight each other.
